More than alternative pathways:

Entrepreneurial innovation in schools

PictureNSW Politicians tour the Entrepreneurship and Business programs which are revolutionizing the lives of young people in the Hunter Valley (St Philip's Christian College)

A growing number of educational leaders are seeing the need for alternative pathways for their students. The AC-designed YES Program caters for  students who have an entrepreneurial passion, helping them complete the HSC, while earning a Diploma of Business and gaining work experience.

Head of SPCC VET, Carlie Boyle, claims that this program is already embodying the vision set out in the latest NSW report from Professor Peter Shergold and Mr David Gonski, In the same sentence: bringing higher and vocational education together by future-proofing students, and raising the profile, quality and cohesion of VET in schools.

‘Our VET programs, SmartTrack and YES, have a different ethos and approach to mainstream school with an increased focus on practical learning, enterprise skills and work readiness,’ she said. Employers want more than qualifications they want employees with social intelligence, adaptive thinking, transdisciplinary and cross-cultural competence, and our programs provide students opportunity to develop these skills as well as completing their HSC.’ (SPCC Media Release)

With  remarkable mapping of the Australian Curriculum against Outdoor and Leadership outcomes, The Scots College's world-leading Outdoor program is achieving 'value add' for its students through its partnership with AC in ways not previously seen in the Australian schooling sector at this stage.

A mutual desire to bridge the dived between schools, universities and the world of work has led to this partnership between AC and Scots college, in order to provided exciting and progressive educational opportunities for both students and staff.  Scots College has a long history of valuing experiential learning and outdoor education and its recent focus on reinventing education to be fit for purpose has led them to ensure no student is left behind.  AC runs unique outdoor education training and teacher education programs that interact with industry experts and engages with some of Australia's leading VET Educators in the outdoor sector.

These partnerships have led to the development of a program that not only builds student character and leaderships skills, but also awards them with a nationally recognise certificate and prepares the boys to succeed in a world that is constantly being reinvented.
