CEN Learning Ecology Launches in Cessnock

After a successful community event late last year, St Philip’s Christian College Cessnock has been hard at work preparing for the launch of its ‘Young Entrepreneurs’ program in January 2021. Despite COVID-19 and the related lockdown, the school has (with its partner, Alphacrucis College) successfully mapped the HSC and alternative pathways for Young Entrepreneurs at the College, and is ready to enrol these future business pioneers in early June.

In order to connect SPCC’s Young Entrepreneurs to the Cessnock community, the school and its tertiary partner, Alphacrucis College, is making entrepreneurship resources freely available to the Cessnock community and its region. The first of these -- the CENetwork’s Podcast monthly series -- is being launched today, 15 May. SPCC Parents and Cessnock business people can tune in by going to this site: http://www.cfs.ac/cenetwork.html. By subscribing, members will receive the monthly podcast, and access to the resources and show notes which provide free, ongoing opportunities to learn and improve. Episode 1 features Alex Carpenter, who lectures in Entrepreneurship at the University of Sydney, and manages the University’s startup-network of over 800 entrepreneurs.  It also features an interview with Cessnock City Councillor and businessman, Anthony Burke, who in many ways trod the road to regional success which these alternative pathways now make available in a more supported way for many more students.

In addition, members will receive a monthly update about events and opportunities, and will be able to access a training unit being designed to empower community mentors to be involved in supervisory roles in the program. This will be released in September, along with a community-based entrepreneurship platform.

‘This is cutting edge stuff’, Principal Darren Cox noted. ‘We have looked at a lot of programs in this emerging area around the country, and we are well satisfied that Cessnock will occupy a leading place. We live not just in interesting times, but in days of real opportunity.’  Episode 2, The Importance of Stories, will be released on 19 June. It features Keeva Stratton, the founder and CEO of Quip Brands and Maven Intelligence. Keeva’s workshops and talks on creativity, inspiration and empathy are known for offering key insights into the brand and creative process, forging new ways of problem-solving and demonstrate how storytelling for brands can be a powerful mechanism for sparking change. Among her current projects is helping a 13 year old entrepreneur take their product to market.
