Dr David Hastie BA Hons, PhD
Director of the Centre for the Future of Schooling, Associate Dean and Chief Consultant
David is Associate Dean of the faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences, and Director for the Centre for the Future of Schooling. He has extensive experience across the Australian Independent school sector and Christian schooling movements. After teaching and leading in schools for 18 years, he became Education Strategist for The Anglican Schools Corporation (TASC) in 2015, and has since overseen the comprehensive 5 year, Board -mandated reviews for 9 of their 18 schools. Throughout this time David developed a proven, academically rigorous mixed method approach, including large sample, quantitative surveys, and a six-peer panel onsite review, gathering data from 30-40 stakeholder interviews. Review findings are captured in a brief three page Executive Summary Report, and accompanying Data Pack, typically 70 pages of detailed analysis. Since joining AC faculty in late 2017, David continues to coordinate school reviews for TASC, and advise on other matters, as a consultant for the Alphacrucis Centre for the Future of Schooling.
David has also published widely in the academic, industry and mass media, and presented at many conferences. He has also developed parliamentary submissions and position papers for Christian school peak body groups, around issues of education funding and religious freedoms. At TASC, David was also extensively involved in new school planting and school acquisition processes, including contributing to due diligence, master plans, demographic analysis and teaching and learning frameworks. His previous role of Director of Cambridge International Courses at Presbyterian Ladies College Sydney, included introducing and marketing the prestigious credential, hosting the Cambridge University Undergraduate Entrance interviews, and building extensive international education networks. David also has extensive experience of the International Baccalaureate, NSW HSC faculty leadership and NESA registration and accreditation processes.
David's Doctoral studies examined the effect of religious schools on English Education, and his research areas include school social impact, school text censorship, the use of Biblical text in schools, the history of Australian colonial education, and indigenous education. He is an Executive Committee Member for the NSW Institute for Education Research (NSWIER), and Associate Editor for Issues in Education Research (IIER). To see David's publications click here
