Parramatta, NSW (28 March 2023) - Our Lady of Mercy College (OLMC) in Parramatta has launched an innovative initiative called the “Mercy Multicredential”. The initiative is a leading example of bespoke, cross school collaborative design in depth by a school-tertiary partnership. The framework is designed by OLMC and Alphacrucis University College to provide students with a flexible, self-directed approach to demonstrating their skills and competencies, resulting in real, transactable qualifications.
According to the Shergold Report (2020), there is a growing demand for individuals with specific skills and competencies in the Australian economy. The Mercy Multicredential addresses these skills and competencies by providing students with a flexible, self-directed approach to demonstrating their abilities. The Multicredential is based on the concept of a portfolio of evidence that students generate over the course of their 6 years in high school, drawing on a broad range of evidence from across their curriculum, co-curricular, and other activities and events in which they engage. The initiative comprises four pathways through which students can demonstrate their skills and competencies: Personal Growth, Leadership, Career Cadetship, and Digital Skills. Matt Estermann, Director of Innovation and Partnerships at OLMC, said, "The Mercy Multicredential is a highly practical credential that is immediately of value to the world outside of school. By allowing students to draw on a broad range of evidence from across their curriculum and other activities, the Multicredential helps students to develop and demonstrate the skills and competencies that are required in the Australian economy in the near future." Professor Mark Hutchinson, Vice-President, Development, at Alphacrucis University College, said, "The Mercy Multicredential is an innovative approach to recognising and assessing the skills and competencies of students. It provides students with real advantages, based on a flexible, self-directed approach to demonstrating their abilities, which is aligned with the skills and competencies which open up significant new life opportunities." The Mercy Multicredential is a valuable initiative that provides students with a flexible, self-directed approach to demonstrating their skills and competencies. By the end of Year 8, all OLMC girls will have the opportunity to use their portfolio to apply for certification of the portfolio by the College's partner, Alphacrucis University College. By the end of Year 9 it will be possible for eligible students to complete a Certificate II, and by the end of Year 12, a Certificate III, with no sacrifice of focus on their matriculation goals.
